Introduction

History

The Miami Open was first held in 1985, and was originally known as the Lipton International Players Championships. The tournament was held at the Boca West Country Club for the first two years, before moving to the Laver's International Tennis Resort in 1987. Format

The Miami Open is a two-week tournament that features both singles and doubles events for men and women. The tournament is divided into four rounds, with the first round consisting of 32 players in each event. The quarterfinals consist of 16 players, the semifinals consist of 8 players, and the finals consist of 4 players. The tournament is played on hard courts and is a nine-day event.

The Miami Open offers a significant prize money purse. In 2019, the total prize money for the tournament was $5.2 million. The singles champions of the men's and women's events each receive $1 million, while the doubles champions receive $250,000.
